Every curl is different,
so here’s what you need to know before your appointment.
Preparing for your Curl by Jeni cut
I have curly hair myself and have struggled for years to find the right stylist, who has an extensive knowledge of how curly hair behaves and how it should be cut. Learning from my own experience and extensive research, I now perform successful curly hair cuts on a variety of different curl patterns and types.
What is a curl cut?
The curly hair cut is done on dry hair, in its natural form. This allows for shrinkage and means each curl is cut precisely to enhance its unique shape and condition. By doing this, the hair falls more naturally, grows out with shape, lasting longer and improving its condition. The appointment is longer than a standard cut and style because it is important for me to understand your needs and for you to be educated in this new method of handling your hair. This bespoke cutting technique creates a tailored approach to your individual needs and curl type. Unlike straight hair which needs a cut every 6 weeks, curly hair needs to be cut less often, with each cut lasting between 6-32 weeks depending on the style. If you would like colouring this will be discussed during your initial consultation and a skin test is necessary at least 24 hours before colour is applied to the scalp.
What should I expect?
During your appointment you will have an extensive consultation, your hair will be cut whilst dry and then washed, with treatments applied as needed. After the cut and wash, the hair is diffused or dried under lights. Once your hair is dry, I will perform any final tweaks to make sure your cut is perfect. This is a general outline as to how your appointment will go, all clients are different so your appointment will be adjusted to your individual needs.
What do I need to do?
To get the most from your visit, it is important that I see your hair in its usual style and condition. This means I need to see your hair in the state that you usually wear it. Wash and style your hair as you normally would before your appointment. This allows me to work with your hair in its natural state and create a cut that looks fantastic and is completely sustainable to upkeep.
Important:
Please do not arrive to your appointment with your hair tied up as this interferes with your natural curl pattern and will impact the results.
